One Small Play
A ball flies in the air waiting to be caught.
Blue is the sky behind it.
Catch it.
Don’t drop it.
Enormous applause if I make the out.
Fast enough?
Got to be.
High in the sky,
I wonder if I can catch it.
Just do it.
Kites fly off in the distance.
Let me catch it.
My one chance.
Now it is almost here in the
Outfield position.
Perfectly petrified, I tremble in my cleats.
Quickly, it hurdles towards me.
Ready to make the play.
Softball is what I do.
Toward me it comes,
Under the puffy clouds.
Victory, I think.
With my teammates counting on me, I must succeed.
X marks the spot on my glove where it will hit.
Yikes.
Zap!
One down, two to go.
