Boys and Girls
Selfish girls with tea hats and long skirts
Cloud the irreversible thoughts and clots
Of my body.
They swill and they sway to the time of the music
While cursors blink on blank computer screens
And old couples hold hands as they mosey along.
The dinging of cell phones and the ringing of hearing aids
While subways glide past underfoot.
The ache of a breakup,
The wrench in a mother’s stomach as she sees the rope
And her television screen eyes,
Which cease to glimmer.
Forever mine, my love.
