A doll that sits around on a shelf brings no use and no new happiness when compared to the doll that sleeps in a bed and has tea and bread and when lost brings fear and tears and anger... One held with the eyes; the other held with the arms.

The author's comments:
I read a story called Everyday Use in which one sister wanted a quilt to hang on her wall while the other wanted it to warm her family when the time came for her to have one.Thus, giving me the idea of two dolls: a collector's doll and a child's doll.
