I wish
I wish that by telling myself
Not to think of you
I could erase you from my mind.
I wish that you wrote on my heart
In yellow chalk
And smoothing you away
Would be no harder
Than cleaning a blackboard.
Wash it with citrus scented soap
Some warm water
And a clean rag.
But you carved into my heart
One day at a time
Your razor brandished like a pen
Quick clean strokes
A flash of sterile pain
Leaving lasting imprints
And no matter how hard I try
To erase
You are entangled in my soul
Bits and pieces of you
Linger in my being
And the only reassurance
I can find
Is that maybe...
I'm haunting you, too
