Going, Going, Gone
The first time it happens,
It feels like a once in a lifetime thing.
Going
Hitting a homerun.
The rush of adrenaline as the ball
Hits the ground on the other side of the fence.
Going
The sound of fans and teammates cheering,
Ringing in your ears while trotting around the bases,
No need to hurry, take as much time as you want.
Going
The ball, now with the date of your
First home run written on it.
The ball, now on display
In your room with many other prized possessions.
Going
The ball, it will always be treasured.
That thought of that day,
When that ball soared out of that park,
That is a thought that will last a lifetime.
Gone.
