Those Eyes
Those eyes I’ve spent hours staring into
And dreaming of
Those eyes I’ve caught staring at me
With a mix of lust and love
Those eyes I watch as we sit on the couch,
Him absent-mindedly watching some movie with
My legs draped over his
In a way that shows our love and comfort for each other
This is the first time I’ve watched them
Like this
So deep
With secret tears pushed back to pretend they don’t exist,
Pretending that he’s stronger than he feels.
Those eyes show the years of pain
He’s been carrying alone.
Those bright brown eyes
Shine so often with love and hope
Now sit filled with anxieties and fears
In a way I can’t mend.
