“And I knew her soul wasn’t something to take lightly. In a world where very little truth existed, her soul was a pariah, standing alone burning like a wildfire in my bones– a flaming crescent across pale midnight skies.”

Christopher Poindexter

The moon looks bloody tonight
Maybe it’s a depiction of the hollow space in between my lungs where my heart once resided.
Your hands reached through the fabric of my magenta dress and brushed against my tan skin.
You peered at me and smiled, that gap toothed smile I grew so fond of,
I smiled back.
But then my mouth widened, as I felt a rip, as you teared through all the forces keeping my skin intact.
You weren’t smiling anymore.
The slit deepened as you dug your hands in, giving a huge laceration to my flesh.
I gave off shaky breaths as you pried open my ribcages,
nothing stopping you from reaching your final destination, my beating heart.
You slowly extended your reach,
twisting and turning it from time to time, firing up the agonizing pain.
You could not wait any longer and I gasped as your fingers grazed against the surface.
My eyes rolled upwards as I felt you grasp and jerk it a little.
Then all I heard was your maniacal laugh and the sound of my own tormented shrieks fill my eardrums.
And there was a thud as my body fell on to the pitch black grass
and you held my throbbing heart up as if it was trophy,
illuminating in the bloody moonlight.
