Finding Fencing
It was an August day, the sun shone ripe;
 and blue lake breezes lapped up on the cliffs
 the grass shone gold, the flowers, every type
 and trees and berries sent out fragrant whiffs
 of summer sweetness. Through the cottage door
 inside the TV athletes swift and fleet
 hailing from each nation, every shore
 were armed and masked as quickly flew their feet
 and flashed their blades. The crowd watched in rapt awe
 as metal clashed and sweat did sting their eyes.
 So fast they fought, so brave, but no one saw
 the true breadth of their fight to win the prize.
 I was transfixed, drawn by the sword’s sweet song
 I knew that I had found where I belong.
