Piano Keys
The black and white keys spread out before me.
The sheet music of choice is in my sight.
I place my hands before I hit a key.
Notes, dancing, up and down, then left and right.
I glance at the music, ready to play.
The judge’s eyes set on my every move.
So now, I silently begin to pray.
For, I’ve heard, they don’t easily approve.
I heave a huge sigh, then begin to play.
The music, it floats around in the air.
Black and white keys turn into shades of gray.
Notes, swirling up, around without a care.
Now, the judge’s eyes have faded away.
And I feel at ease the first time today.
