alone in the small empty room I sit
alone I weep, for feathers on the ground
so many everywhere, I barely fit
among them my wings hardly can be found
this unplanned molting is cause for concern
as I lose flight one feather at a time
it is not something I can just relearn
this special skill that once was purely mine
I'm shaking, grieving my most stunning wings
protectors once, they now are limp and weak
both withered shadows of once stronger things
they represent a future rather bleak
as I am them, my wings are truly me
without them surely I am nobody
