I Was A Hiccup Once

I was the curve at the tip of your thumb,
The spaces between your pearly white teeth,
The prickles you got when your leg went numb,
Your skin and everything that was beneath,

Soft hiccups were what I preferred to be,
Closer to true thoughts than a thumbing heart,
Gone and back when you least expected me,
I was all of you, though falling apart.

Not used to the feeling of being whole,
I missed the times when I wasn't mended,
Nearly blinded by the glow of your soul,
I'd burrowed much deeper than intended.

Feeling too constrained, I released your skin,
And the hiccup I was once encased in.
