"Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught." - Oscar Wilde

Fortune alone doth us possess,
To shine upon with radiant flame,
Or torture us with vile excess,
For her own sport unfair.
Thus bound to joy or endless shame,
‘Tis strange that all do not depress,
Chained to a life so bare.

When walking through those valleys green,
Or through the streets under dark smoke,
Art thou not to be often seen,
Clasping another’s hand?
That is the carrying of thy yoke,
The water which our blood doth clean,
The sword that makes our stand.

A love which is not love but love,
That fealty swears and loyal keeps,
Off thee keeps thorns, so sweet a glove,
One which we cannot lend.
And when happiness with thee sleeps,
And with the world thou art a dove,
Remember him; your friend.

Thank you for your comment, I'm very happy you liked it. I also forgot to thank you for all your other comments, so I'll just say that I'm very much obliged to you for your constant support.

Thank you very much, that's very kind of you. I personally find it somewhat forced, if you know what I mean, with rhymes which are too exagerated. Nevertheless, I'm very glad it pleased you.

In English class today, I had to find things wrong with your poem, and it took me the longest time to say ANYTHING bad about this poem. It was beautifully written. So much talent. I absolutely loved it. And I don't read many poems I like. Cheers!
