Maya A.
Just like the cage bird sings I sing.
I sing for the love of my father.
I sing for the little ones risking their lives just to be heard.
I sing for the ones fighting to be understood.
I sing for the ones who walk down the road just to be shot down with words of hate.
I sing for the ones who need a hand but never received even a single glance.
Just like the caged bird sings I sing.
I sing for that bird in his cage.
I sing for that boy who committed suicide just cuz he was shoved down into the pit of despair.
I sing for that girl who became anorexic because she was called fat.
I sing for that mother who get beaten by her husband.
I sing for that child who has to see that happen from behind the couch.
Just like the caged bird sings I sing.
I sing for my aunt karen who was diagnosed with cancer.
I sing for my family who always fight with each other over little things.
I sing for my loved ones who have passed away.
I sing for my friends who I have watched be depressed.
That is why I sing like the caged bird sings.
