"Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect; it means you're capable of looking beyond the imperfections." --Anonymous

From this point forward
I will not stand
to be unhappy
any longer.
I will not stand
to be broken down,
broken apart,
broken-hearted.
From this point forward
my success does not depend
on my waistline
and my strength does not depend
on my weakness.
My biggest fear is not
the nutrition label.
From this point forward
I will not worry those
who love me.
I will not look at those
with hip bones
and rib cages
and be jealous.
I will not be afraid
to eat the birthday cake
you made me.
I will not measure
every morsel as if
any more would make
it poison.
From this point forward
food is not my enemy
and Ana is not my friend.
Size zero is not beautiful
and 90 pounds is not ideal.
I am no longer
enslaved by my scale
and it is not an awful day
when I weigh enough
to donate blood.
From this point forward
the only things coming
out of my mouth will be
words.
I will no longer be called
Disgraceful,
Disgusting,
Distasteful.
From this point forward
I am
Inspired,
Indestructable,
Independent.

I can't even begin to explain how much this relates to me. Except I struggle with Mia. I wish I could be as strong as you. So beautifully written.

i'm sorry that you think i was trying to attack you but that wasnt what i was going for. And yes, i know you werent trying to say that skinny people are not beautiful. i just felt that when you just said zero/90lbs wouldnt be beautiful on you, i took it the wrong way. I'm sorry. Next time i'll try to think before i type. Again -- i'm sorry.

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others, for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness, and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

Thank you for your feedback, but it seems to me that your attack on me is utterly uncalled for. Never anywhere did I say that skinny people aren't beautiful. This is a poem about ME. Not about you. Size zero/90 lbs wouldn't be beautiful for ME.

This was a wonderful poem, but, i hate when people write somewhat badly about skinny people. i have lived my whole life with people telling me if either anorexic or bulimic when i'm not either of those things. I don't gain weight easily, and i used to try and try to at least get up to 100 pounds. I'm 86lbs. In a size 0. Do you know how long it took me to get our of a size 00? No. You don't. i'm not trying to trash talk you. I just hate when people hate on people because there too skinny, when sometimes its not there fault.

I understand how you feel. I think almost every girl cares about her body image. As I've gotten older I have learned to love myself. I'm glad you did too!

If you cant rock it, dont even bother trying.

This is an amazingly inspirational poem. Having never experianced anorexia, I don't know exactly how you feel. However, I can feel the hope and joy that radiates from this poem. Well done, five stars :D

I know I've commented on this before, but I have to come back to this poem because it has probably touched me more than anything else I've ever read. Having been anorexic myself for years and still dealing with it, this assures me that life is better without my eating disorder, because right now I'm still stuck in the mindset that "Ana" is still my friend & I can't part from starving myself. When I first read this poem when it was first published two years ago, I printed it out to keep in my room as inspiration. I think I might finally be on my way to believing these words to be true, & I thank you for writing them. You are truly inspirational, & this poem is amazing.
