The Perfect Dark
I feel at home in the black of the night;
Wind chills my body to its quiet core,
Howling and moaning like dogs at a door,
Keeping me company, a darkness in light.
Snow starts to fall; nature’s ghosts fill my sight,
Stories of murders and all sorts of lore
Flood my mind on the path traveled no more;
I clear my head, I don’t expect to fight.
A beacon of sorrow lights up the dark,
So sudden, so quick, it caught my still gaze
As I wander alone, though it’s alright,
The lamp flickered bright, not leaving a mark.
I walked past it to the oncoming days,
Wishing to stay on this darkest of nights.
